May 9th (5:30 – 7:30p)

Firefighter Memorial Quick Paint Competition

Artists have two hours to find a unique view of the iconic and historic firefighter memorial in Penn Valley Park. Immediately following the painting session, a judge will announce the winner and award $500 to the artist. The public is welcome to watch this event and the judging ceremony at the end, although we ask that you be considerate of the artists and not disturb their focus during this time.


May 11th (6 – 9p)

Union Cemetery Quick Paint Competition

Artists have two hours to find a unique view of the iconic and historic Union Cemetary. Immediately following the painting session, a judge will announce the winner and award $500 to the artist.

This special quick paint will feature the UMKC Conservancy’s Jazz musicians as well as local gourmet food trucks on site. All are welcome to attend this flagship event and the judging ceremony at the end. Please be considerate of the artists and not disturb their focus during this time.


May 13th (6:30a – 8:30a)

Penn Valley Park Lake Quick Paint Competition

Artists have two hours to find and paint a unique view of the picturesque lake in Penn Valley Park during sunrise. Immediately following the painting session, a judge will announce the winner and award $500 to the artist. The public is welcome to watch this event and the judging ceremony at the end, although we ask that you be considerate of the artists and not disturb their focus during this time.


May 13th (6p – 9p)

Awards Ceremony & Art Auction at Buttonwood Art Space

Have you always wanted an original painting of Kansas City, but thought you would never be able to afford one? The Plein Air KC festival concludes with an auction where all of the hundreds of pieces of artwork created during the festival will be sold. This is a special chance to meet the talented artists, celebrate their work, and enjoy an evening of food and adult drinks with the Penn Valley Park Conservancy.
